Mente Aberta (Open Mind) is a ceramic sculpture that represents multiple faces gathered into a single head, a symbolic body that opens, both literally and metaphorically, to embrace human diversity. The work reflects on identity, plurality, and the right to exist in freedom, offering a sensitive perspective on the many layers that form the human being.
At the top of the head, an exposed brain becomes the starting point for a new arrangement: a floral art composition that emerges from this opening, as if ideas and emotions could bloom. The integration of ceramics and botanical art reinforces the notion of inner growth and expanded consciousness, suggesting that a truly open mind is one that constantly reinvents itself by welcoming the other.
In times of polarization, the Open Mind sculpture proposes an exercise in empathy. Every line, texture, and color of this work symbolizes a group, an experience, an identity. By bringing together different faces within a single form, the piece invites the viewer to question the boundaries of normality and to recognize the beauty of difference.
The floral intervention, placed at the top of the skull, represents the blooming that occurs when we allow ourselves to embrace diversity—a metaphor for the transformation that unfolds when we cultivate respect, listening, and humanity. By crossing art, activism, and aesthetics, Open Mind becomes not only a sculpture but also a silent manifesto in defense of inclusion.
The creation process of the Open Mind sculpture involved ceramic modeling techniques followed by hand painting, which allowed the exploration of different skin tones and hair textures, symbolizing ethnic and cultural diversity. Each side of the sculpture was treated as a distinct face, visually expressing the coexistence of identities.
The upper part of the head is intentionally open, revealing a carefully crafted exposed brain designed to convey both vulnerability and strength. This space will be filled with a floral art arrangement, using natural and dried materials, evoking a nature that emerges from the mind, delicate yet resilient.
Working with ceramics became an act of introspection and listening. The imperfections of clay recall human imperfection and the beauty that resides within it. The integration of floral art expands the piece’s discourse, bringing lightness and renewal. The union of these two techniques reflects the essence of the project: where there is diversity, there is also the possibility of flourishing.
