This work was developed for “Arte de Fora” in 2025.
In the hot sun of the road,
leather rises to protect;
it is memory and destiny,
a banner of life to reflect.
Chaparral of steadfast stars,
the mandacaru longs to bloom;
between thorns and free gestures,
beats the heart of resistance’s tune.
Lampião wears his courage,
Maria is light aflame;
through the paths of imagery,
ancient stories call their name.
Leather, flower, and fine metal,
in the design of knowing’s hand;
craft and machine in dialogue,
give form to what they understand.
If the drought tests the heart,
the flower dares to vow:
those who know their own riverbed
will learn to rise again somehow.
Insignias of the Sertão,
symbols of belonging’s thread;
art is path and song in motion,
where childhood dreams are fed.
Insígnias do Sertão evokes the encounter between two eternal symbols: Lampião’s hat, a sign of leadership and resistance, and the mandacaru flower, which blooms rare and defiant, like Maria Bonita. Together, they form a pair of opposites that complete one another leather and flower, sun and shadow, roughness and delicacy.
The work arises from the desire to transform emotional memory into a universal language, reminding us that the sertão is not only aridity, but also affection, culture, and reinvention.
